We have to find out who broke into Jimmy Sweet's room, and messed up his room, leaving behind a lollipop that has been sucked on. We will take the DNA saliva from the lollipop, and find out who the culprit is
The suspects of this crime are Candy, Cookie, Sugar, Lolly, Honey, Brandee, and Carmela. One of these suspects, who just happens to be Jimmy's sisters, had their saliva on his lollipop, i wonder who it is?
Step 1) Pour Restriction enzyme into DNA - This cuts the DNA into separate locations. The code of the DNA decides where it will be cut and separated.
Steep 2 ) Pour Agarose gel into the tray on the lab counter- This will act like a molecular strainer, which allows smaller DNA to move through easier and more than larger DNA.
Step 3) Pour DNA into the tray- The DNA will fall into then holes of the Gel, which the Agarose created.
Step 4) Push the Power button on the tray to begin the electrophoresis- This is the process which moves molecules using electric currents. It also helps view where the DNA is located, which is found in the hole of the gel, colored pink.
Step 5) Place nylon membrane on top of the gel- The DNA is transferred from the gel, to the nylon membrane. All of the material that can be absorbed has been sucked up by the nylon membrane.
Step 6) Add probes to the nylon membrane in the tray- The probes attach themselves onto DNA that matches their code, and these probes are radioactively labeled.
Step 7) Place X-Ray film on top of the nylon membrane on the tray- All of the radioactivity from the nylon membrane are now visible only on the X-ray film.
Step 8) Develop film by dragging it to the developer- The Developer uses the X-ray film to see where the radioactivity was at on the nylon film, which consist of the DNA of the criminal.
Step 9) choose the criminal- We have to match the DNA of the X-ray film with the suspects DNA.
